About Us

Hi! We’re a Canadian family from Northern Ontario who fell in love with Huatulco, Mexico.

Our first trip to Huatulco was in 2022 when our oldest daughter was just six months old. Like many parents, we were nervous about travelling internationally with a baby. We spent hours searching for information about what to pack, where to stay, what the beaches were like, and whether Huatulco was actually a good destination for families.

The problem? There wasn’t much information available from people who had actually travelled there with young children.

So we booked the trip anyway.

What we found was a destination that felt completely different from the busy tourist hotspots we had visited before. Huatulco was relaxed, safe, welcoming, and incredibly family-friendly. The beaches were beautiful, the pace of life was slower, and the local people were patient and kind with our children.

Since that first trip, we’ve returned multiple times and explored far more of Huatulco than we ever expected.

We’ve stayed for as little as two weeks and as long as six weeks at a time. We’ve travelled with babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. We’ve rented local condos and homes, navigated grocery shopping, laundry, healthcare, transportation, and everyday life with young kids. We’ve also brought family members down to experience Huatulco for themselves.

Every trip has reinforced the same feeling:

This isn’t just somewhere we like to vacation.

It’s somewhere we want to build a future.

In 2027, we’ll be returning for a three-month stay as we continue exploring temporary residency and the possibility of relocating to Mexico permanently.

Why We Created Huatulco Guide

After answering the same questions from friends, family, and other travellers over and over again, we realized there was a need for practical, experience-based information about Huatulco.

This website isn’t written by a travel company.

It’s written by a family who has spent countless hours exploring the beaches, trying local restaurants, figuring out transportation, travelling with young children, and learning what everyday life in Huatulco is really like.

Our goal is simple:

To create the resource we wish we’d had before our first trip.

Whether you’re planning a one-week vacation, a month-long stay, travelling with children, or considering spending more time in Mexico, we hope our experiences help make your trip easier and more enjoyable.

From Northern Ontario to Huatulco

Where we live in Northern Ontario, winter can last seven or eight months of the year. Snow can arrive in October and sometimes sticks around into May.

Huatulco offered us something completely different.

More time outdoors.

More family time.

Fresh food.

A slower pace of life.

And a community that made us feel welcome from our very first visit.

We’re excited to continue sharing our journey and helping others discover one of Mexico’s most underrated destinations.

Thanks for following along.
