Playa La Entrega, Huatulco

Playa La Entrega is probably the most difficult beach for me to write about because it’s our least favourite of the major beaches in Huatulco.

The funny thing is, there’s nothing specifically wrong with it.

In fact, we still include it on our list of the best beaches in Huatulco because the snorkeling is some of the best you’ll find anywhere in the area. We also know plenty of people who absolutely love it, and if snorkeling is your priority, there’s a good chance you’ll love it too.

At the end of the day, every beach has things we like and things we don’t. For us, the things we didn’t love about Playa La Entrega ended up having a bigger impact on our overall experience than the drawbacks we found at some of the other beaches.

A big part of that comes down to the restaurant experience.

When we go to the beach with kids, it’s a lot of work. We’re packing snacks, sunscreen, towels, toys, extra clothes, and trying to keep everyone happy all day. Once we’re settled, we don’t want to spend the afternoon looking around for our server when we need another drink, food for the kids, or the bill.

Over several visits, we’ve consistently found the service at La Entrega less attentive than what we’ve experienced at beaches like Santa Cruz. It’s not that anyone has ever been rude, and it may simply be the restaurants we’ve happened to choose, but we’ve often found ourselves wondering where our server disappeared to.

We’ve also never quite connected with the overall vibe of the restaurants the way we have at some of our favourite beaches. At Santa Cruz, we’ve had servers who remember us, joke with the kids, and make us feel genuinely welcome. We’ve just never really had that same experience at La Entrega.

That doesn’t mean you won’t.

In fact, many visitors would probably never notice the difference, and some may even prefer the more laid-back approach.

That’s why Playa La Entrega isn’t our personal favourite beach in Huatulco, even though we’d still recommend visiting it—especially if snorkeling is high on your list.

Best for: Snorkeling, activity, lively atmosphere
Water: Clear and great for snorkeling
Vibe: Busy and energetic
Amenities: Restaurants, chairs, rentals
Access: Easy (short taxi ride)

What to Expect

Playa La Entrega is a smaller bay with calm, clear water and some of the best snorkeling in Huatulco.

The beach tends to be busier than places like San Agustin or Chahué, especially during weekends, holidays, and peak travel periods. Because it’s one of the most popular snorkeling beaches in the area, it attracts a mix of locals, visitors staying in Huatulco, and day-trippers arriving by cruise ship.

You’ll find several beachfront restaurants lining the beach, along with vendors selling souvenirs, snacks, jewelry, and other small items throughout the day.

The atmosphere is lively and active, with plenty happening around you. If you’re looking for a quiet beach where you can sit by yourself and listen to the waves, this probably isn’t the beach I’d recommend. If you enjoy a more social beach with lots of people, activities, and energy, you’ll likely enjoy La Entrega.

If you’re visiting during Semana Santa (Easter week), expect crowds.

Our first visit to La Entrega happened during Semana Santa, and we had absolutely no idea how busy it would be. The beach was packed, the restaurants were full, and there was barely an empty spot in sight.

We were travelling with our six-month-old daughter and had finally managed to get her asleep in the stroller when a six-piece brass band set up directly beside us and started playing.

As parents, you can probably imagine the look on our faces.

Looking back, though, it’s one of our favourite memories from Huatulco. The music, the celebrations, and the energy are all part of what makes Mexico special.

If you’re visiting during Semana Santa, just know that “busy” in Mexico can mean something completely different than what you’re used to at home.

Getting There

Playa La Entrega is a short taxi ride from both Santa Cruz and La Crucecita.

While it is possible to walk, we generally recommend taking a taxi. The route includes some steep hills, and the return trip can feel a lot longer in the heat than it looks on a map.

One thing we always recommend is stopping at the lighthouse lookout on the way.

If you mention it to your taxi driver, they’ll know exactly where you’re talking about, and many drivers will actually suggest the stop themselves. The view overlooking Santa Cruz Bay is beautiful and worth the extra few minutes.

We’ve made it a tradition to stop there every time we visit. Most drivers are happy to wait while you take photos and will often even offer to take a family picture for you.

The taxi ride from town is usually around 60 pesos. If you include the lookout stop, we’ve typically paid around 100–120 pesos total, which we think is well worth it.

There is also parking available if you’ve rented a vehicle.

Food & Drink

There are several beachfront restaurants lining Playa La Entrega serving seafood, cold drinks, snacks, and full meals.

We’ve always found the food and drink quality to be very similar to Santa Cruz. The prices are comparable as well, so we wouldn’t choose one beach over the other based on food alone.

When you arrive, don’t be surprised if restaurant staff approach your taxi before you’ve even finished unloading your bags. This is completely normal and happens at many of Huatulco’s beaches. They’re simply hoping you’ll choose their restaurant for the day.

If you don’t have a specific restaurant in mind, it’s perfectly fine to go with one of them.

You don’t have to sit at a restaurant if you don’t want to. Playa La Entrega is a public beach, and you’re welcome to set up your own spot on the sand.

The food has never been the issue for us. If anything, it’s the service. Over several visits, we’ve often found ourselves looking around trying to figure out where our server went when we wanted another drink, needed something for the kids, or were ready for the bill.

Again, that’s just been our experience, but it’s one of the reasons we personally prefer some of the other beaches in Huatulco.

Activities & Vendors

Along the beach, you’ll find vendors offering water activities and rentals, which can be arranged Playa La Entrega is one of the more active beaches in Huatulco.

You’ll often find banana boat rides available, and because the beach is so popular for snorkeling, it’s easy to rent snorkeling gear if you don’t have your own.

There are usually vendors walking along the beach selling things like jewelry, souvenirs, snacks, fruit, and other small items throughout the day.

Compared to quieter beaches like Chahué or San Agustin, there’s generally more going on around you at La Entrega.

Some people love that energy. Others prefer a quieter beach experience. It really comes down to personal preference.

Snorkeling

If snorkeling is your priority, Playa La Entrega deserves its reputation.

The snorkeling here is excellent and easily accessible directly from shore.

If you’re facing the water, head toward the left side of the beach. From there you can follow the shoreline and rocky areas around the bend, where you’ll typically find the best snorkeling.

We’ve seen plenty of fish here over the years, and it’s one of the easiest places in Huatulco to enjoy snorkeling without needing a boat tour.

For many visitors, the snorkeling alone is enough to make this their favourite beach in Huatulco.

Tips

  • Stop at the lighthouse lookout on the way for one of the best views of Santa Cruz Bay.
  • Bring your own snorkeling gear if you have it.
  • If you’re visiting during Semana Santa or other holidays, expect very large crowds.
  • Arrive earlier in the day if you want more restaurant options and better seating.
  • Don’t be surprised if restaurant staff approach you when you arrive—it’s completely normal.
  • If you’re leaving around sunset, be prepared to wait for a taxi, as lines can get quite long.

Who This Beach Is Best For

Playa La Entrega is best for:

  • Visitors who want some of the best snorkeling in Huatulco.
  • Families with children who enjoy calm water.
  • People who like a lively beach atmosphere.
  • Visitors looking for a short taxi ride from town.
  • Anyone who wants to spend a full day at the beach.

If snorkeling is your number one priority, Playa La Entrega should absolutely be on your list.

Even though it isn’t our personal favourite beach overall, we’d still recommend visiting and deciding for yourself. There’s a reason so many people love it.
